6 Spring Skincare Tips For Healthy, Glowing Skin

Posted by on

After months of snow, rain, and frigid temperatures, spring is finally on the horizon. Winter has left the building (well, almost), taking with it our dreary moods and dry, itchy skin.

Why not take advantage of the spring in your step and pair down your skin routine? From tossing out old products to choosing a lighter moisturiser, we’ve got you covered with these spring skincare tips.

1. Spring clean your skincare shelf

Spring means out with the old, and at the top of our ‘out’ list are those products at the back of the bathroom shelf collecting dust and any products that are over 6 months old. Old products can host a buildup of bacteria, leading to clogged pores and dull skin. It’s time to give that two-year-old moisturiser the boot and refresh your trusted trio of basics: cleanser, serum and moisturiser.

2. Wear Less Make-up

Your makeup has a lot to do with your skin health so choosing the right products are very important. Too much makeup can clog your pores and cause breakouts, especially as it becomes more humid out.

Let your skin breathe! Swap your liquid foundation for a light, face powder. They have lesser ingredients and are less likely to irritate your skin. You should also use products that are mineral-based and free of parabens.  And of course, always take off your makeup before bedtime with a gentle cleanser that will lightly wash away make-up and hydrate the skin.

3. Buff away winter skin

Winter weather can leave a buildup of dead skin cells. This can make the skin dry, flaky and dull. Shedding off your old skin cells should be a must to achieve vibrant and youthful skin as the new season rolls in. Get all the effects of a facial the easy way with a daily exfoliating toner.

We recommend using our Naturally Radiant AHA Skin Tonic - £21. It works by getting rid of skin buildup to improve skin texture and appearance. It also reduce your chances of breaking out and improves your skin’s ability to absorb other skincare products. Ready. Set. Glow!

4. Brighten It Up

The easiest way to liven up a dull complexion left behind by winter is to incorporate some brightening products into your regimen. Multi-tasking serums are a no-brainer way to introduce a heavy dose of multiple ingredients into your routine.

We recommend our 5in1 Rejuvenating Facial Serum - £29.99 containing brightening Vitamin C, moisture-boosting hyaluronic acid and age-defying peptide trio. It slides on in a thin, lightweight layer making it a perfect base for makeup. Put one pump between your hands and pat into your face in place of your daytime serum.

5. Don’t skip the SPF

Here comes the sun (hooray!), which means it’s time to up that SPF.  Just because it's still cloudy and cold doesn't mean you can skip sun protection. UVA and UVB rays can affect your skin through glass and clouds too, which is why wearing SPF all year round is essential, yes, even if you're indoors.

Our favourite is Biore UV Riche Watery Essence 50+, it's ultra sheer and watery consistency dries to a matter finish, is perfect under make-up and does not leave a white cast.

6. Eat More Fruit & Veggies

When it comes to maintaining a healthy and glowing complexion your diet is of utmost importance. One of the best ways to hydrate your skin is from within. A great way to get more water into your day is by snacking on fresh fruit and veggies. Fresh fruits and veggies are a delicious snack, are packed with the water your system needs – plus vitamins and nutrients. Water helps your skin retain its elasticity, which means it can help fight signs of ageing. Great foods for healthy skin include lettuce, broccoli, grapefruit, carrots, apples, and watermelon. Studies have found that citrus fruits are especially helpful for skin health.
